Mzansi it's time for you to celebrate your creativity and celebrate South African heritage with Avbob. Since 2017 Avbob Poetry has invested over R6,2 million in supporting talents of South African poets.
The 2025 AVBOB Poetry Competition opens for entries in all of South Africa’s 11 official written languages on 1 August 2024. Once again, generous cash prizes await the winning entries.
Last year Avbob 11 winners walked away with the prize of R10 000 cash prizes , a R25 0000 book voucher and an elegant trophy. Each guest also received a copy of annual anthology (each with English translation). Avbob offers a variety accepts the entries in all official languages , to give everyone the chance to participate and to celebrate a diversity competition.
'' Poetry addresses the universal struggle to find meaning and purpose in our darkest hours. The Avbob Poerty competition inspires poets to reach the deep inside themselves to find words that keep hope alive. Fostering the poetry community helps people to find encouragement reading and writing of this vital life affirming the art form,'' De Lange said in a sparkling gala award ceremony which was hosted at Pretoria last year.
The winners for last year are Natalie Goetsch , Lethube Hellen Phaladi , Nkululeko Mthembu , Siphosakhe Gogo , Zimkhitha Mbele , Mahlangonolo Shilela Masehla , Brian Makara , Mosimanegapane Jeremia Jasone , Nomvula Prisca Nkosi and Bongani Nkosi who took the first place.
You can enter up 10 poems in any official South African languages between 1 August and 30 November. The best entries in each language category will be published in the AVBOB Poetry Library, earning the writer a R300 publication fee. First-place winners in each language category will take home a prize valued at R12 500. This includes R10 000 in cash as well as a R2 500 book voucher and the stunning AVBOB Poetry Trophy.
