Durban South Beach Avenue where the police have found six suspects who were connected to multiple murder cases

On Monday 2 September 2024, before midnight six suspects were critically wounded in a shootout with police on the South Beach area of Durban. Six suspects who have engaged in a shootout with police, it is reported that they are connected to multiple murder and extortion cases.

 The South African Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi stated that after the police follow-up information. It was discovered that the six suspects were connected to the cases of five people, who had been brutally killed with an execution style gunshot. The five men were seated on the side of the road at Tshelimnyama in Marianhill on Sunday night, drinking alcohol when the suspects arrived in a vehicle armed with a pistol and a rifle and ordered the victims to lie down before shooting them in the back of their heads.


In a statement which was issued by the South African Police Provincial commissioner, it was mentioned that the police followed the information that the suspcets were hiding in Newlands East and upon arrival further was collected, that the suspects were at the suspects rented apartment on South Beach Avenue Area in the Point area of Durban. The suspects suddenly opened a firearm on the police, which resulted in a shootout engagement, where six suspects were left critically wounded in a shootout. No police have sustained injuries.

 

The suspects were linked to a triple murder in Mpumalanga where three men were killed near a tuck shop on Mintown main road in Mpumalanga township in Hammersdale on Friday afternoon. The suspects were also linked with a Friday evening robbery at a shop apartment they were found in, the police suspect that they were involved in the illicit of drugs.


The police are concerned with the increasing number of extortion cases, “ That is commonly happening in the west of the province is the collection of money, and protection fees in the majority of these tuck shops which are found in townships that are mostly owned by foreign nationals, they normally walk around and collect money from them that part of the problem that we are having, we have dealt with quite a lot of them in the past and many of them have been arrested, we have dealt with a lot of them in the past,’’ said SAPS Police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

 

Three firearms were found by police during a prior search after the engagement shootout, these firearms were found in the possession of the suspects. The fire arm will be tested by Police to inspect whether it could be linked to other crime scenes,
