Few weeks after the former city of Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink of Democratic Alliance was elected out the office on the 26th of September 2024, by the ANC with the vote of no confidence, the city was left without a mayor.
On the 9th of October the 2024, city of Tshwane council appointed Dr Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA as Tshwane Mayor, at Tshwane house. In the course of appointment former mayor, Brink, received 86 votes and Dr Moya received 122 votes to claim the mayoral chair, the previously deputy mayor was backed by the ANC and other political parties.

“To the residents of Soshanguve, Hammanskraal, Mamelodi, Centurion, Bronkhorstspruit, Ga-Rankuwa, Lynnwood, Kameeldrift, Waterkloof, Irene, Sokhulumi, and everyone residing in between, I am here to tell you that I am not an ActionSA mayor or a mayor from any other party for that matter”, said Moya.

Youth have expectations on the new mayor, and are hoping she will deliver the much needed services to the city, hence they outlined the fact that one of the biggest challenges that Tshwane has is service delivery, especially the issues of water, waste removal. Sanet Solemen said that, “in the past few months we have seen people living in the informal settlements complaining that there is no service delivery, communities for example in Hammanskraal”.
Pretoria west citizen, Katlego Chauke expressed her expectations on the newly elected mayor, Dr Moya, Chauke said, “I expect her to perform better than the previous mayor and she must live up to her words and put the needs of her people first she must come up with new ideas and ways to alleviate the water and electricity crisis that happens here at Tshwane”.

Regional chairperson of the ActionSA, Jacky Mathabatha said they won’t discriminate anyone, their priority is service delivery, and they are aiming to achieve this by working hand in hand with every party that is involved in this arrangement. Mathabatha added “all councillors must now become servants of the people”.
Dr Nasiphi Moya who took over from Cilliers Brink was backed up by the ANC going into the mayoral election, becoming the 4th in 3 years for the City of Tshwane. African National Congress consider this as the serious victory as they are the provincial government, as Action SA is willing to work with them to better the City of Tshwane.
