Newly appointed KwaZulu Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has been edged up their game in the DSTV Premiership and Mostepe Foundation, respectively He said this on Tuesday in his launch of the 2024 KZN Premier's Cup at Southern Sun Hotel in Durban.
During the 2023/24 season KZN witnessed nonetheir four teams finishing inside the top 8 of the DSTV premiership. Golden Arrows has the only team closer after finishing 9th , with only one point separating them from the 8th placed Polokwane City, while defending champions of the KZN preseason cup Amazulu finished 11th , Royal AM finished 13 and Richards Bay FC managing to secure the playoffs position after battling relegation through the season.
''Let make this opportunity to chanellenge you to utilise this ( pre-season) tournament fully to finalise your preparation for the upcoming season , " uttred Ntuli.
Ntuli proceeds by saying he believes that all the team will display level of competitive edge during this year's Premier's Cup which might lead to a good season ofbthe PSL. "As the leader my wish is to see one of our teams winning the PSL in the upcoming season and all our teams in the premiership fiishing in the top 8 of the log table , that is my prayer, ' added the newly appointed premier.
With the other two KZN sides participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championship , Ntuli did not leave them behind and had some words spared for them. Martizburg United was very close from securing a play offs position , they finished 4th with only three points separating them with 2nd place. Urnivesity of Pretoria meanwhile , Milford FC prior who were on their first season of the Mostepe Foundation after purchaing the status of Uthongathi FC prior to the 2023\24 campaign , managed to finish 13th and avoided relegation.
'' My messege to Martzburg United and Milford FC is that we want to see at least one of you planning gainign promotion to the premiership division, '' he said
Ntuli also empasized the important of having all the KZN teams playing in the top flight football. '' We want to see the number of the teams in the PSL returning to 5 , because KwaZulu Natal is indeed the home of football, '' concluded Ntuli
The KZN Premier's Cup will commence on the 27th of July with the defending Champions AmaZulu FC playing againts Golden Arrows at 11 am , which will be followed by Royal AM and Milford at 2pm. The following day coach Simo Dladla's Martzburg United which will be followed by semi final later on the day. All games will be played at Princess Mangosuthu Stadium in ULundi.
